History of Kumud Vidyamandir

Kumud Vidyamandir was established on June 9, 1968, by the renowned cricketer Late Vijay Merchant. Initially, the school started with 2 primary and 4 secondary classes in Mankhurd, with a student count of 400. The journey of building the school began with a leased plot from BARC in 1975, moving towards the final site for the school’s construction. On January 9, 2021, a groundbreaking ceremony for a new G+5 storied building was conducted by alumnus Mr. Sunand Manerikar, marking the reconstruction of the 44-year-old structure. The school now accommodates 43 sections across pre-primary, primary, and secondary levels, with 2,460 students enrolled. Despite the high demand, many admissions have to be declined due to space constraints.

Kumud Vidyamandir has earned a reputation as a “quality and activity-oriented school” in the suburban areas of Greater Mumbai. The school operates with transparency, consistently achieving SSC results of 99% and above. The first two principals, Mr. Sharad Patil and Mrs. Meena Patil, were recipients of the state-level Ideal Teacher Award. The institution’s motto is “Tethe Kar Maze Julati” (Where My Hands Join).

The school is named in honor of Late Kumud Kesarinath Raote. For decades, the school has paid tribute to her through its various activities. Kumud Vidyamandir has carved a unique place in society due to its quality education and initiatives.
